123 Send – industry update...

Closure of the Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme – effective 30th June 2011

The 24 bank and building society members of the UK Domestic Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme have announced that the Scheme will close on 30th June 2011, meaning that it will no longer be possible to guarantee a cheque under the Scheme after this date.

The Payments Council concluded that it was in all parties’ interests to manage the Scheme’s demise in a coordinated fashion following extensive consultation with guaranteed cheque users and acceptors. This announcement does not mean the end of cheques as businesses will continue to be able to accept them and customers will still be able to write them.

James Coe, Head of Sales, 123 Send says:“We have been expecting this for some time and are pleased that the members of the Scheme have taken a unified approached to the scheme’s closure. We at 123Send support the taking of secure and flexible payments with our industry leading mobile (GPRS) Chip and Pin terminal.”

What do I need to do?

You don't need to take any action as a result of the closure. However, if you would like to see how a 123 Send card payment terminal would support your business email us at sales@123send.net or call us Free on 0800 54 23 123.

The charity evening included a raffle and an auction for which the terminals, provided on a discounted charity rate, were used to ensure payment was received there and then while allowing guests to be more generous than perhaps even they expected!
